Where have I been?
It's been over a month since I've blogged anything here and I have had people wondering where I am. I didn't even think that people would seriously be wanting to read what I write! LOL! This blog has even been reviewed at http://aha.typepad.com/weblogs_blog/ - Kim, is this your subtle way of drawing me back out into bloggingdom? Well, it must have worked because here I am! :-)
My only excuse for the absence is that we have been TOO BUSY LEARNING! Yeah!
Our postcard project is huge and it is almost a full time job managing incoming and outgoing requests for exchanges of postcards from around the world. Actually it has turned into a full-scale hobby. We actively seek out postcards in our special interest areas -> Sparkle = horses; J-Bird = baseball; myself = people of the world, wild animals, and just about anything else interesting like landmarks, castles and other fascinating architecture, lovely views, famous places, and so on. I manage databases of the postcards we have to trade, plus the details of trades so that we know what is being sent where and when, and if we need to follow up any packages we are expecting from others. The children and I head out to find more postcards at least once a week. If we head to new areas we make sure to check for new and interesting postcards that overseas people would like. I also maintain a site where we've uploaded scanned images of all the postcards we have to trade.
We've extended our postcard hobby to include stamp collecting too. I got the kids a special kids stamp binder with a starter pack of stamps and other bits'n'pieces like tweezers, magnifier and a CD-ROM that we are yet to look at. On our regular visits to the post office we have started also buying little packs of stamps designed for child collectors....organised into special topics like birds, animals, dogs, cats, trains, etc. I'm trying to chase down the display sheets we need so we can start sorting and categorising them.
I won't say more about what we've been doing in this blog because I'll share that in our Learning Land blog.
