Snippets of Learning
So much learning and so much time.
That is one of the biggest benefits of living a naturally learning lifestyle. Apparently we aren't supposed to be learning at the moment because it is 'school holidays'. ;-p
I am continually rewarded by witnessing snippets of learning happening all the time...
Today Little Chicken (10 1/2 weeks old) 'talked' more than she has so far. She already knows that conversation means turn-taking.
J-bird (and Daddy and Sparkle) continued the quest to collect all the orbs and complete various tasks required of Spiro 2 (a PS1 game). There are lots of 'talking' points throughout the game which give instructions and present challenges for the player in both verbal and written format. Sometimes the character doesn't speak clearly so you have to read the text and other times the audio is off while we listen to music on the stereo. There's also spatial skills, maths, logic and problem-solving. Some new computer games we have bought have been full of similar literacy and numeracy skills, especially 'The Logical Journey of the Zoombinis' - what a great game!!!
Sparkle has had me read all the library books she borrowed the other day. One book she wanted to echo read each page after I read it (as she often does). This morning Sparkle was excited as she shared a 'trick' she had just watched on 'Backyard Science' - she got me to watch as she shut her eyes for a little bit and then opened them. She wanted me to see the pupils get bigger. I had a turn so she could see my eyes change. A quick and fun experience of how our eyes filter the light - and I bet she remembers it for a long time to come!
